Let me tell you a tale. A tale of almost-woe. A tale of mostly slight discomfort (with a few minutes of actual 'pain'). This is a tale of the HW 'wellness fair'. California educators and school staff are mandated to have a TB test every two years, and a Hepatitis B booster every five. As a courtesy to employees- and a surefire way of making sure everyone complies to health code, our school offers a wellness fair. It's an enticing deal- free vaccines of your choosing, free bloodwork, vision tests, BMI indexes, blood pressure and stroke screenings. All the annoying little things that get billed directly to you in an actual doctor's office.
Unfortunately, the school hired a ragtag band of worker's comp screener nurses to administer everything. These foolios couldn't do anything correctly. My Hep A and B boosters were delivered subcutaneously (should be intramuscular- DUH), they flattened my TB bubble with a band-aid moments after injection (a BIG no-no, DUH), they didn't CHANGE GLOVES after each patient (didn't notice this until my turn was over, DOH), and the blood draw team admitted that 'yeah- its been a while since we did blood draws for anyone.' One of the nurses was eating a bagel as he took blood from a coworker. That's just wrong.
Surprisingly enough- I got a nasty reaction to my vaccines. A giant quarter-size welt grew on my arm and I thought I was going to die. In true Skrilla form, I decided to ignore the reaction and see if it went away by itself. It didn't for a few days, and my arm got more inflamed and sore. Dylan had the really good idea of drawing a circle around the welt as measurement of it either getting worse or better. After I drew the circle, I kind of wanted it to get worse so I could make a big deal of my vaccination martyrdom around campus and get to miss work.
But now its going away. And it itches like hell. No work was missed.
The end.
